My adventure in hiring a contractor

So this was really fun. Because Doug is working all day at a new job that he can't leave early from, all of the hiring of various contractors to do work I can't do is left to me. So imagine me, tall skinny weakling (though I think I am tough and a lot of times I am, I have a brain and realize that any average size man could kick my but in heartbeat) sitting over at my very empty house that is filthy inside, both from construction and the previous owner. Imagine no electricity, no water (which means no toilet or hand washing) no phone and it is 100 degrees outside. Now imagine taking a screwdriver and poping staples out of your floor that were holding carpet padding in place (another reason to hate carpet) on your hands and knees. Now do this for 4 hours all the time waiting for your contractors to show up to give you a bid when they were supposed to be there hours ago. Now the first one came, Leo, the painter. He speaks almost now English. Nice guy, no creepy rapist vibe. He leaves, great. Next guy, 4 hours late. As soon as he pulls up, you get that feeling, ladies, you know what I am talking about. He is much younger than Leo, like 30. As soon as he comes in I want him to hurry up and leave. We discuss the job, walk around the house a bit and all the while Omar (the electrician) couldn't flirt with me more, (I know I am hot stuff). Too bad for Omar I have an extremely paranoid father, brother and husband, as well as a brain so I am not to scared. Why you ask. Well you see in Texas you can carry a gun. So I feel much more secure knowing that I have my brothers gun clipped to the back of my pants. Too bad for Omar. As if this whole process didn't suck enough, enjoy the vulnerable feeling women get when meeting men like this, or just carry a gun.

You were seriously carrying a gun?? I know now to never mess with you...especially if I happen to visit you in Texas. By the way, I can't seem to find your mom's number...can I still call your cell? I guess I could just try, huh? I'll talk to you soon! Miss ya!

Yes Amy, I really was carrying a gun. I was not about to be assaulted by some knucklehead contractor.

shut up you wear a gun. You made my night with this post. I'm envisioning Jessica Land wearing a gun while meeting with contractors. Thanks for the LOL.
