My adventures in firing a contractor
Okay, so I have mentioned I am running this project myself. So, Friday morning I drive the 30 min. from my mom's house to mine so that my painter can start working. My mom, Doug and I had spent the last 4 nights painting all the walls of the house and the painter was going to paint all the doors, trim, ceilings and bathrooms. So I pull up, with the kids, we go inside and he proceeds to tell me that I was not supposed to paint the walls and now the job was going to cost twice as much. 1) I don't recall him ever saying that to me. 2) If he did, how would I know, the man barely speaks English. 3) What!!!!!!! So instead of being really mad and yelling and fighting with the man, what did I do, I cried. A lot. And then, I cried a lot more. I am not sure what came over me. It could have been the sheer exhaustion from working every night, the frustration of knowing that I did all that work for nothing (he was going to charge me less money to have him paint the entire house than he wanted now), or maybe I just had wicked emotional PMS. I still am not sure. Anyway, I ended up telling him to just do it. Then when I called Doug, he wanted to talk to the man himself. That ended up in argument (with the painter, not me) which led to Doug telling him to get off his property. He is much meaner than me. So then I cried some more because now I had to find a new painter, get a new bid, wait for him to start, move all my other contractors back, and wait that much longer to get into my house. I found a new painter in the same day, got a new bid for less, he starts on Mon. and all is well. As I said before, this is not fun. But stay tuned for pictures when all this hard work and crazy crying turns into a very cute new house.

Wow, Jessica, it really must have been awful to make you cry. I am sorry that this project has been so "un-fun". But I can't think of a better person to get all of this stuff done in the matter of time that you have. Your doing great. keep working, and you will soon enjoy the fruits of your labor! Kudos to you.
